The Filipino Block Rosary Group

The Filipino Block Rosary Group was started by Father Camilo and Mrs. Lily Baker in 1977 to promote the novena and devotion to our Our Lady of Fatima. The Virgin Mary Statue is taken to different houses in Livermore during the months of May and October. In the Philippines, the Statue is given to the next door neighbor until the whole block has been visited by the Virgin.

Here in the US, not everyone is Catholic so we cannot do the whole block but the name Block Rosary stuck and is still used by Filipinos living in the US. After Mrs. Baker died, Mrs. Crisanta Gallardo became the leader of the group. Sally Buenconsejo and Corry Painter assisted Mrs. Gallardo. Last year Mrs. Gallardo's daughter, Lani Gallardo Meyer replaced Mrs. Gallardo as the new leader of the group.

Simbang Gabi 2017

All parishioners are invited to the annual Simbang Gabi mass to be held December 16 to 24 at 6:00 am except on Sundays (December 17 and 24) when it will be held at 5:30 a.m. Simbang Gabi is a Filipino tradition that dates back to the 1800s when the Philippines was under Spanish rule. It is a nine day novena to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ.

Why not take some time from the busy holiday activities and join us at mass? For more information, please call Lani Gallardo at (925) 784-9753 or Vivian Hackett (716) 573-3907.
